Santa Ponça is where the troops of King James I landed in 1229, beginning the conquest of Mallorca. The Landing Cross was raised in 1929 for the 700th anniversary, together with the Chapel of the Sacred Stone, at Sa Caleta near the harbour. The Festes del Rei en Jaume, held for about ten days around 10 September since the early 1990s, re-enact the landing with more than a thousand participants.
Santa Ponsa has three golf courses and a marina. Golf Santa Ponsa I opened in 1977 with 18 holes at par 72; Golf Santa Ponsa II opened in 1991 and Golf Santa Ponsa III in 1999, both reserved for club shareholders. Club Náutico Santa Ponsa was founded in 1971 and has 522 berths for boats up to 20 metres. Nearby is Port Adriano marina at El Toro, designed by the French designer Philippe Starck and extended in 2012, with 487 moorings for boats from 6 to 80 metres, 87 of them for yachts of 20 metres and over, plus a 10,000 m² shipyard and a 250-tonne travel lift.

Since Decree-Law 4/2025 of 11 April 2025, no new holiday-letting registrations are possible anywhere in the Balearics for flats in multi-family buildings, except semi-detached and terraced houses. Detached villas need a zone where letting is permitted and letting places, which are currently allocated only on a limited basis in Mallorca; details are in our holiday rental licence guide. Breaches of the holiday-letting rules can carry fines of up to €500,000. Whether a particular villa in Santa Ponsa holds a valid holiday-letting licence has to be checked property by property. Buyers who plan to let a villa to holiday guests should clarify its licence status before completing the purchase.
